How does your media player represent particular social groups?
In our radio station ‘radio fresh’ we include a jingle which is very catchy and I believe it has quite a urban vibe to it. I think that this represents a lively & possibly young adult social group. Also I think that the name of our radio station ‘ Radio Fresh’ relates also to the young adults social group as well.
I think that the content of our radio that we cover applies to a big majority of radio listeners in general. We have covered News, weather, Traffic & other aspects which most radio listeners want when it comes to the needs of radio content.
I think that the our radio station contains elements of humour which applies to quite a widespread amount of listeners as a lot of people enjoy comedy to a certain extent. The way which we have done this is we have included various sound effects which help to create humour. For example we included a ‘car horn’ sound effect in between a transaction from sports to traffic. We believe that this contains humour but it is also very appropriate as well.
All of these different social groups in which our radio station applies to all adds up and it gives our radio station quite a large group of potential listeners.
Who would be the audience for you media product?
I think that there is no specific audience for our radio station ’Radio Fresh’. I believe that there is a mix in audience for our media product. I think that the Name of our radio station and the jingles which we include is most suited to young adults. We also cover the news including some very serious headlines this applies to most adults.
Also the radio covers weather and traffic. This applies to the audience which are listening to the radio on the move or in their cars. This is a very big amount of people because many people listen to the radio in their cars or on the go. Also people that are listening to the radio at home are likely to be interested as well.
The audience for our media product is quite large and mixed.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?
In our media product we have used a jingle which come up every so often when we are changing subject in the radio station. The jingle that we use is similar to what real radio stations use. For example the radio station Heart FM use a jingle – ‘This is heart’ which goes along to tune the ends. This is similar to our Jingle.
Our radio station ‘Radio Fresh’ covers various categories such as Traffic, weather, new & sport. This is similar to most real radio stations because they often cover these subjects. One of the aspects that our media product does not have is allowing people to choose something that they want in the radio station. For example some radio station let people phone up to request a song to be played. That is one of the real media product sections which we do not cover.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I think that I learnt a lot from the preliminary task from the progression to the full product. In the preliminary task I learnt how to use the software which was a huge boost for when we had to do the full product because we could get to work straight away without having any technical issues.
We were able to listen to some of the Jingles and see what other useful sound effects were on the software. We were able to get used to the microphone which we used to record are voices for the radio. We were able to understand how to edit our product on the Garage band software.
Overall I think that the preliminary task was a great way to help kicks start our progress for the final product. It gave us a good amount of experience and I am pleased with how it helped us as a group.
I think that I learnt a lot from the preliminary task from the progression to the full product. In the preliminary task I learnt how to use the software which was a huge boost for when we had to do the full product because we could get to work straight away without having any technical issues.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt how to use the Software Garage band to quite a high standard. Also I have learnt how different radio stations use techniques for effect in their radio stations. I understand how jingles or sound effects can be used to create different vibes or moods for the media product. I realise that jingles and sound effects are vital in radio stations.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I think that our Media Product ‘Radio Fresh’ is quite similar to the way that Eagle Radio layout there radio station. When we were doing analysis I discovered that they included the usual new stories but then they included a humorous story as well. We included some serious stories in our news for our Media project, but just like Eagle radio we included some humorous stories. For example we included a story about a specialist being able to understand what animal are thinking. This may be seen as being quite humorous by some people. I consider are radio station as being quite similar as eagle radio. We also use jingles quite often like them as well.
How did you attract/ address your audience?
The way in which we have attracted the audience’s attention is by including a quite loud and lively jingle. This is attracting people from mainly the younger generation because of the sound of the jingle and some of the music we have used for the sound effects.
We mention that the news is coming up shortly in our radio station and I believe that this attracts the attention of the older generation. This is because a lot of the middle age and older generation are often interested in knowing what is going on in the latest news updates.
